A Sneak Peek at Our Summer Hill Project

Hidden away in a secluded neighborhood just north of Baltimore, this 1780s home carries more than two centuries of stories in its stone, pine, and brick. The house has an old-soul warmth — cozy, storied, and full of character — but like many historic homes, its layout hadn’t kept pace with the way its family actually lives today.

When the homeowners first reached out, they described a space rich with charm but stretched by modern needs: a dark, segmented kitchen, a hard-working playroom that never quite worked, and a powder room ready for a refresh.

FIRST LOOK

Design is now officially wrapped, and as we move into documentation, we’re excited to share a first glimpse of where the project is headed.

In the kitchen, we focused on opening the space, brightening sightlines, and bringing more function to the heart of the home. Creamy taupe cabinetry, warm brass details, and a classic apron-front sink set a soft, timeless tone. A mantel-style shelf above the range adds character, while the reworked pantry wall and central work table deliver the storage and flow the old layout lacked.

We also widened key openings to strengthen the connection between the kitchen and surrounding rooms. Light, natural materials keep the space feeling fresh while still grounded in the home’s historic character.

The adjacent playroom shifts into a true family zone — soft blues, built-ins for books and toys, and a layout that supports everyday play with easy connection to the kitchen. And the powder room gets a simple, charming update with checkerboard flooring, refreshed finishes, and new fixtures.
